Healing is a very personal process,  acknowledging that we are wholeheartedly in control of our own individual healing journey can be a frightening and difficult concept to grasp, especially if we have undergone something quite traumatic and sad. In time however, If we are able to do this, we are often in a better position to regain a little control and understanding of this deep process.   Healing starts from our thoughts, actions and how we honour our own needs during times of pain.

As a qualified healer and spa owner, I welcome people onto my treatment couch daily, many of whom are amidst their own personal turmoil and walking tenderly on their own healing journey.  Every time, without fail, I want to make things better for them. But one of the most important lesson I learned early on in my career, is that, as a healer you have to accept and honour the fact that you cannot control someone’s own healing process, you cannot heal them, they have to walk the healing path themselves. Each individual will heal when they are good and ready to, and when they have learned what ever it is they needed to through the whole experience they have faced. All you can do is support them during the time they are in your treatment room. Providing them with a safe and secure space to relax, breathe and maybe let go a little.

I like any other person, I have undergone periods of deep healing. I have been the victim of  domestic violence in a dark controlled relationship, lost loved ones to terminal illnesses and had moments in my life, where I have truly struggled to regain just some element of normality.  When I look back I realise I needed to experience such deep, uncontrollable pain, to enable me to empathise with others, in my new healing role. I believe a healer that has walked a deeply healing path themselves, is one that can share elements of wisdom that they have gained from their own healing process.

Do not force the healing process, healing takes time – Healing is a deeply personal experience, every person and every event is different. Do not rush your healing journey, it doesn’t matter if it takes weeks, months or years. Only you will know when you have truly healed, and only you can decide when this happens.   When we are consumed with fear and worry, we tend to run scenarios in our heads of how life is going to turn out. This actually just increases our fear and worry. Try and take each hour and day as it comes, live fully in the present moment, not the past or the future. When we successfully manage to get through that hour, and then that day, slowly little by little, we can start to release some of the pressure and control that we are unwillingly placing on ourselves. Healing takes time, honour that process wholeheartedly by taking baby steps every day.

Embrace the pain, do not fight it – to really work through something we need to feel it fully. Breaking down into a sobbing bundle of tears, is sometimes what we need to do to work through our feelings of sadness and grief. I remember when I lost a dear loved one three years ago, I literally walked around in a blur of sadness and tears for weeks afterwards. I honestly felt completely numb, like a part of me had actually died with that person. I couldn’t function properly at’ll, it was as if I was on auto pilot, and I didn’t care about anything in this world apart from this huge hole that was suddenly in my heart. People told me that in time it would get better, but I didn’t want to hear that, I didn’t think they could possibly know how I was feeling. Of course in time it did get better, but I needed to fully feel the pain I was experiencing for myself, I needed to allow every inch of my mind and body to wallow deep within it’s sadness, to finally enable me to work through it, slowly one day at a time.

Bathe in or diffuse essential oils in your home – as a holistic healer, I have had the pleasure of witnessing over the past 15 years, the incredible power that essential oils can play during someone’s healing process. Many scientific studies have now proven that essential oils can actually make both emotional and biological changes to the human body.  Essential oils can effect brain chemicals, which in turn can promote feelings of peace and relaxation.    I have actually recently devised a skincare range (which is launching later this year), that has been 100% inspired by my clients, people I have had the pleasure of supporting through their own healing process.  My favourite oils to use to enhance relaxation and promote feelings of calm are Vetiver, lavender, geranium, jasmine, orange, benzoin and bergamot. (Please always check you are able to use any of these oils topically prior to use).  You can purchase many pre blended bath oils too, I love Aromatherapy Associates range.

Quieten the mind to allow the body to start to heal – Meditation is a hugely powerful tool when it comes to supporting your own healing process. When our mind is a whirlwind of turmoil and sadness, we are constantly preventing our physical body from slipping into repair and renewal mode. Try and allow yourself just 10 mins of ‘quite time’ every morning and evening. Many studies have shown that meditation actually helps treat depression and anxiety, as well as boosting your immune system.

Get out amongst nature, particularly trees! – Nature cleanses our aura and helps to balance our own harmonic energy field . Taking ourselves outside amongst trees, grass, foliage and nature provides us with a sense of oneness and can instantly promote feelings of calm and healing.  I live right near Greenwich Park, and despite my busy schedule I always try to make sure I have periods of time in the park throughout my week. I personally find it refreshing, calming and it really does give me a sense of reconnection during times of uncertainty.

Affirmations and positive thought – Some of my clients have found the use of affirmations particularly helpful during times of stress.  When I first bought my spa, and we thought we were about to lose everything due to the economic turn-down, including the business and our home,I had a little sign that I put in my office that read “My income is constantly increasing”. Despite how bad it got (sleepless nights on a friends floor as I couldn’t afford the petrol costs to get me home), every time I read that sign it gave me a point of focus and hope.  It drew my sometimes negative mind, back to something positive and gave me a sense of direction.  I also found this scroll written by the Dalai Lama in a shop during the same period it my life (see picture below), it still hangs in my office to this day. A constant reminder that life can be a struggle, but we should never give up.   Occasionally turning our mind to a positive thought, even for just a moment, can help give us a little hope and clarity on our onward journey.

Tap into the healing power of music – This is something that purely works for me, so I wished to share it in case it works for someone else.  I find music deeply healing.  Sometimes, when I am overcome with grief, doubt or sadness I will listen to some classical, or deeply moving music. I become completely engulfed in everything about it, every note and every chord.  I am still, I am quiet and I just simply listen, allowing the thoughts to come and go in perfect synergy with the piece I am at one with.  It maybe that upbeat music works for you in this way, give it a go and see if you experience any emotional connection or benefit.

Go and book a massage – Massage is clinically proven to reduce the stress hormone cortisol, and increase the mood enhancing hormone serotonin, it also lowers blood pressure and induces a deep sense of relaxation. Many massage therapists are also natural healers, much like some nurses. In my experience, the aura’s of massage therapists are often various shades of blue and turquoise, a healing shade. If you have never had a massage before, ask around for a good, reputable therapist and go and get a treatment booked. Massage is a fantastic way to treat depression and anxiety, and many of my clients over the years have found it exceptionally beneficial to experience a treatment during times of stress.   When cortisol levels are lowered in our bodies, we are able to repair and renew more effectively.

Tap into the healing energy of crystals – As a holistic healer, I am open to the healing benefits of many things, yoga, therapies, food, meditation and also crystals, to name just a few.  It is my belief that everything is energy, and therefore crystals have their own harmonic frequency, just as we do. Many crystals vibrate with a healing energy. There are some fantastic online crystal stores out there, or you can go and visit a qualified crystal healer.  It’s believed when certain crystals are placed on various corresponding points of the body or Chakras, (the energy centres of the body), they in turn can promote a deep sense of healing and overall balance.  This is now a widely accepted therapy found in many high street and larger corporate spas around the world.

Be safe in the knowledge you grow from every negative experience – In my twenties I used to often take the ‘why me’ approach to the challenges of life. Further along my own spiritual journey, now in my late thirties, I no longer have that out look on life. Life is simply that, life. From the day we are born, we aren’t given any guarantees that we won’t ever experience pain, loss or unhappiness. In fact, lets be honest,  it is more of a guarantee that you will experience all of these things at some point on this earth. We all do, every single one of us.  Now instead, with every challenge or period of sadness sent my way, I have been taught by my own spiritual tutor, to go inward, to explore those feelings deeply and thoroughly, and live in the knowledge that in time, through the tears, frustration and unhappiness, I will gain a new wisdom and an inner strength, that maybe in time, will possibly help someone else along their own healing path.

It is one of the most prominent alternative and/ or complementary types of therapy that helps the person heal and get his needed balance on all three levels (physical, emotional and spiritual).

Meditation is a practice in which an individual trains the mind or induces a mode of consciousness, either to realize some benefit or just for that aim in itself.

The term “meditation” can refer to the state itself, as well as to practices or techniques employed to cultivate the state of mind we wish to achieve.

Meditation often involves an internal effort to self-regulate the mind in some way. It may be done sitting, or in a more active way.

Mind science research has suggested that the key to most of the things we want in life, whether it’s abundance, career success, health, happiness or enlightenment, lies in a particular state of mind.

That state of mind if cannot be achieved spontaneously, we may need to consider natural ways to help us get into that; one of which is certainly the meditation.

Scientifically, there are certain brain waves that correspond to that state of mind – in which we are capable to get anything we desire in life; the scientists call this the Alpha and Theta brainwave frequencies.

What would happen if you could reduce the resistance in the human brain?

By training to function at brain frequency levels known as Alpha and Theta; levels of deep relaxation that most people experience while meditating or in light sleep. If  you  train your mind this way you will see a significant improve in your life on many levels, you can even use that with the kids which may help them improve their grades at school, some research  have  even found evidence of enhanced intuitive functioning for some people when they started using their brains at the previously mentioned frequencies.

Calmness is the ideal state in which we should receive all life’s experiences,” writes Paramahansa Yogananda (1893-1952), founder of the Self-Realization Fellowship, in the prominent book Inner Peace.

Meditation is the perfect antidote for the constant intrusion of technology in our lives. In fact, recent research has shown that meditating twice per day for about 20 minutes can actually reduce blockages in your blood vessels, significantly lowering the risk of sudden death by heart attack or stroke.

Color therapy, also known as chromotherapy, is often facilitated in the healing rooms of alternative health practitioners. Color therapy is classified as a vibrational healing modality. Vibrational medicineincorporates the use of chi energies within living organisms such as plants, gemstones and crystals, water, sunlight, and sound.

Create Abundance

According to the website Dictionary.com, abundance is defined as “an extremely plentiful or over sufficient quantity or supply.” Lately though, we have grown accustomed to using the word abundance in many contexts related to improving our quality of life. Abundance, and knowing what we can achieve, is a deeper aspect of being ‘aware’ of how our lives can improve and get better.

It is not difficult to attract abundance if you believe in it and if you believe that “you are what you think.” As I previously mentioned on this page, the thoughts of today will create our tomorrow. We need to recognize that tomorrow holds the best and that only the best is yet to come. We still need to affirm our love for ourselves because this helps us believe that we will achieve abundance and that we deserve “plenty” and deserve the best.

Manifesting abundance is something that we all do, intentionally or otherwise. Depending on our thoughts and beliefs, we may have created an abundance of joy, splendid relationships, radiant health and even wealth, or we may have created an abundance of the opposite – misery, loneliness, illness and poverty.

One key to accelerating the process of manifesting abundance is to become aware of limiting subconscious beliefs (resistance). Ironically, the conditions that people have the strongest resistance to are generally the first ones that they choose to ‘manifest.’ For example, if someone is experiencing a desperate desire for money, this is a clear indication that he or she has some resistance towards having it. Although they have every conscious intention of manifesting wealth, certain belief systems buried deep within their subconscious may be sabotaging their efforts and thus hindering the flow of wealth into their lives.

A good way to create abundance is to use the positive and present tense when you are thinking of and making your affirmation statements. For example, saying “I attract everything I need into my life,” is much better than saying “I will attract everything I need into my life.” When you try to repeat this statement or affirmation, your mind will often interfere by stopping this energy flow and making you drift to other thoughts instead. It is mainly a matter of training your mind to focus and believe that the best is still there to come.

When you repeat positive abundance statements, you are attracting abundance into your life. During your repetitions, you will be surprised at some of the thoughts that come up. Notice that as you proceed through this exercise, your responses will become more positive. Some of your first negative (limiting) thoughts will suddenly seem less true and you will begin to realize that positivity is paying off and bringing more of what you wish to have into your path. When you better understand what is happening in your subconscious, you begin to accelerate the process of attracting what you need in ways that you need.

Essential Energy

The application of pressure is usually done in a circular motion, so that it may stimulate the body’s vital energy and create an overall balance. The vital energy that flows though each organ and system of the body is also referred to as Chi or Prana in Eastern medicine. All of the body’s organs and systems are connected by this vital energy. Therefore, if a particular organ is sick, one must look at the entire body to locate the cause of the illness.

Numerous experiments and studies have been done on Chi or Prana energy in China in the last thirty years. The studies revealed the presence of a mixture of electromagnetic fields in the energy of the human body. Today, various tools and machines exist to measure this type of energy.

More than Just a Foot Massage!

Reflexology is different from a regular foot massage because it works by applying pressure on specific areas. This implies the existence of pain in those areas, if an imbalance is present. On the other hand, a foot massage entails ‘massaging’ the feet in a way which results in a comfortable and relaxing state but which does not really deal with the symptoms of any illness or with the illness itself.

From Imbalance to Illness

Research and experience has shown that reflexology can help deal with various illnesses that a person may be suffering from. If the vital energy is out of BALANCE, there is usually either a physical or emotional manifestation of that imbalance. The aim is to restore this balance through a variety of ways, one of which is reflexology. As it helps put the vital energy back in HARMONY and BALANCE, it deals with the illnesses a person could be suffering from. When the body is in a balanced state, it can act in a HEALTHY manner and can react properly to anything that affects it.

The Importance of Awareness

Part of the whole HEALING process is the ‘awareness’ that we need to develop in order to deal with a disease. Diseases develop as a result of imbalances that have existed for a long time and which have either been ignored or which we have failed to deal with properly. Therefore, AWARENESS should exist before the ailment actually turns into a real disease! Even the slightest thing, such as a headache or interrupted sleep, should be examined closely and dealt with. The key is to be aware of all our mental, emotional and physical needs. Only then, will we be able to act as defenders of our own imbalances and will we be able to remain HEALTHY.

Listen to your Heart (and Body)!

The next time you develop a particular symptom, stay with it and observe it. Try to find out what it is trying to tell you. Pay attention to it in a different way by listening to your mind and body. Being AWARE of your needs and acknowledging them is the first step of any HEALING process, no matter what type of therapy you choose. Take care of your emotions and your body, and you will always be HEALTHY and FIT!

Apply Pressure like an Egyptian

Reflexology is an ancient healing science which dates back to the time of the Egyptian pharaohs. It has continued to develop over the centuries, with the help of doctors and healers across the world, to become the kind of practice that it is today.

The Human Map

Reflexology is based on the principle that a complete map of the human body exists on the palms of your hands and soles of your feet. The map reflects all organs of the human body, from your head to your toe. The upper part of your foot, for instance, represents the upper part of your body which include the chest, the heart, the shoulders and partially the arms. As you go lower on your foot and hand, you also go to a lower corresponding area on your body.

Powerful Pioneers

Dr. William Fitzgerald is an American pioneer in the field of reflexology. Not only was he was an ear, nose and throat specialist, but he was also the first one to start making a connection between applying pressure to a painful area of the body and releasing pain from that very same area. This is essentially the same concept that reflexologists continue to follow today.

In Your Own Zone

Dr. Fitzgerald also discovered what is referred to as ‘zone therapy’, which divides the body into equal longitudinal zones. Dr. Joseph Riley, who worked with Dr. Fitzgerald, later added horizontal zones, across the hands and feet, to the longitudinal zones. This made it easier to determine the different individual reflexes according to the ‘Zone Theory’.

The difference between zone therapy and reflexology must be made clear though. Reflexology works on the zones of the body as well as the different reflexes representing the organs. It thus works to identify the sore areas which are out of balance. On the other hand, zone therapy works mainly on the zones to determine the areas which need to be worked on.

Eunice Ingham was one of the students of Dr. Riley’s zone therapy. She became the main pioneer of reflexology as it is known today. Ingham practiced on hundreds of cases before confirming that “reflexes on the feet were an exact mirror image of the organs of the body.” In her famous book, “Stories Feet Can Tell”, she recorded her cases and outlined the foot reflexes which are commonly used today. As a result of the wide range of beneficial knowledge which it contained, Ingham’s book was translated into seven different languages.

So how does reflexology actually work?

  1. During a normal session, the reflexologist applies pressure on the different points of your foot or hands which represent the different body organs.
  2. Through this pressure, and because of existing nerve endings on your feet and hands, the brain receives a signal.
  3. Upon receiving the signal, your brain begins releasing hormones such as cortisol and endorphins. The first is responsible for reducing the pain that you may be suffering from and the latter is in charge of making you feel ‘happier’ and less stressed, thus causing you to feel more relaxed after your session.

The power of love

Life is simple. It is made of either negative or positive aspects.

Each area in your life will have either one or both of these aspects.

Your health, your relationships, your job,your family..

“Love is an element which though physically unseen is as real as air or water. It is an acting, living, moving force.. it moves waves and currents like those of the ocean” Prentice Mulford.

Love is not just a feeling ,it is a vital force of life. The force of love -and although invisible- has power outstanding any of the other nature’s powers.

Simply said that without love there is no life.

Every invetnion , creation or discovery was born as a result of love in the heart of the person/ creator.

Without the love of the architects we wouldn’t have had homes for example, no buildings to live in or work at.

Without love there would be no doctors to treat patients, there would be no teachers or schools. There would be nobody to help you out when you need help.

In every moment of our lives, we have a choice. Even when we tend to think that we don’t, we actually do.It is vital to know that we always have a choice how we want our lives to be. Every moment of our lives is a matter of choice. How we respond to our problems and challenges is also a matter of choice. And chooding love is the optimal choice to have.

Love is key for all the good things in your life whereas lack of love is key for all the negative things around you.

Attraction is the force that draws people to other people. It is the same concept of why you may like to read and your friend likes to cook. Attraction draws you to the favorite things, people and places you like to be at.Attraction in other words is also love.

Hence using love is a vital way and force to attract all the great things you want in your life, it is not about using your mind.. it is about using the great power of love.

Everything in life is about how we feel. We act through feelings. Thoughts and feelings have an energy on their own. We create certain waves when we think and when we feel. Balanced healthy people like to feel good, while the more unbalanced like to stay victims on their own negative mindset.That is why,we tend to choose a job over another because it makes us feel good,  feel achieved.. We choose a person or a partner over another because they make us feel good. Whatver you want in your life, you want because you love it and will make you feel good .

Another thought to think about is that life is not really happening to us, it is rather responding to us. We get what we need, even the negative things, we get because we either need them to be there to teach us something and be our guide for some time or they are there because we have called on them since we are suffering an unbalanced state of energy and hence attracting the negative things. Like when you think of bad things that are likely to happen to you , chances are they will happen in to you because you have been calling on them.

We must train our thoughts and minds to be happy and learn to give. Whatever you give out you will receive back.

So just give out love, be united with love and your life will change!
